Strategic action for waste management in Manado City to prevent marine debris input to Manado Bay: a preliminary study

Marine debris has become a serious threat for the coastal and marine environment. Their presence can degrade quality of environments also negative impact on several aspects people lives especially public health aesthetics. Several efforts have been made, both short (to mitigate impacts) long terms manage them properly) efforts. Strategic action in waste management is very important order to Manado City; this objective research. In achieve objective, situation condition Bay described, include composition density at area, quantity debris, land, status awareness, degradation nature, institutional regulation, planning. These were analyzed identify strengths weaknesses before strategic actions are developed. The results showed that composition, density, increased from 2017 2019. Waste land going well, government institutions dealing with adequately arranged. Five City prevent input proposed, they are: a) encouraging reduce use plastic-based products; b) involving community institution land; c) increasing activities keeping environment (river, beach) clean; d) inviting working together develop programs which will be implemented jointly; e) improvising according existing regulations specific target incorporating rivers other areas regulation.
